What’s new on HBO and Max in March 2024

Warner Bros. Pictures

In March, HBO and Max embody the tale of two streaming services fused into one. On the HBO side of the equation, the premiere of the new miniseries The Regime brings Kate Winslet back to the premium channel for the first time since her Emmy-winning turn on Mare of Easttown. Additionally, Max is premiering Wonka, the hit musical that was one of Warner Bros.’s lone bright spots in 2023. More surprisingly, Disney is lending out Deadpool and X-Men Origins: Wolverine to Max just a few months before Deadpool and Wolverine hits theaters.

Those are all of the good parts of March’s lineup. Most of the rest comprises low-quality reality shows from the Discovery side of Max. It’s truly amazing how many spinoffs Discovery can squeeze from 90 Day Fiancé, but that doesn’t mean they’re worthwhile. There is an audience for that programming, but it takes up a disproportionately large chunk of Max’s March schedule.

Our complete list of what’s coming to HBO and Max in March 2024 is below. Titles without “HBO” in the listing will only be available on Max. DT’s film and TV show recommendations are in bold.

We also have lists of the best movies on HBO and HBO Max and the best shows on HBO and HBO Max to help you decide what to watch next. If HBO isn’t your only go-to streaming service, we have helpful articles on the best movies on Netflix and the best shows on Netflix, as well as the best movies streaming on Amazon and the best shows streaming on Amazon, plus plenty of other guides for Hulu, Peacock, and Disney+.

3 underrated shows on Max you need to watch in March
John Noble, Joshua Jackson, and Anna Torv in Fringe.

There's no shortage of shows to watch on Max -- there just isn't as much scripted content as there used to be. The Discovery side of Warner Bros. Discovery is flooding Max's lineup with reality programing and more spinoffs of 90 Day Fiancé than we can easily keep track of without a flow chart.

The good news is that there are still some great shows on Max that are a welcome oasis within this desert of reality programing. That's why we've chosen three underrated shows on Max that you need to watch in March. Our picks include a wild medical series set at the turn of the 20th century, a tense miniseries, and a sci-fi drama that really deserves a second chance to breakout.

3 great (HBO) Max movies to watch instead of the 2024 Oscars
A knight on a horse looks at a council in The Green Knight.

Here's a hard truth: the Oscars aren't for everyone. The speeches, the inane interviews, the chintzy dance numbers -- it's a bloated ceremony that is as off-putting to some people as it is appealing to others.

If you're one of those people who isn't going to be watching the 2024 Oscars, you probably need some suggestions for what to do instead. And you can do worse than watch some movies on Max. You should watch the three movies on the list below. One is a 2023 hit starring a Dune: Part Two lead actor, another is an underrated fantasy, and the last is a modern comedy classic.

The 26 best sitcoms on Netflix right now (March 2024)
The cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The newest additions to Netflix's lineup of sitcoms are the fan-favorite series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as well as a lesser-known show featuring a major star: The Jamie Foxx Show. Somewhat predictably, Brooklyn Nine-Nine quickly ranked among the most popular shows on Netflix. As for The Jamie Foxx Show, it flew under the radar for most of its five-season run decades ago, but its Netflix premiere could bring a fresh audience to the series.

March will also be the final month that Community will be streaming on Netflix. So, if you want to catch the six seasons of that show before the Community TV movie goes into production for Peacock, now's the time to start bingeing. In the meantime, here's the complete list of the best sitcoms on Netflix right now.
